KARKITAKA VAVU 2024

On August 5th, 2024, Amrita Vidyalayam, Ernakulam celebrated Karkidaka Vavu Day with an insightful exhibition that highlighted both the customs and scientific aspects of Karkidakam. Although the official Karkidaka Vavu Day was a holiday, the school organized the event on the following Monday to ensure student participation.

Students from the 8th and 9th standards showcased their knowledge and creativity through various exhibits, under the guidance of the in-charge teacher, Lakshmi T. S. The event was a vibrant display of cultural heritage intertwined with scientific explanations, and began right after the morning assembly.

Exhibits and Participants:

  • Muppettu Velli: Sree Parvati from the 9th standard exhibited items used in the traditional Muppettu Velli, including detailed descriptions of the rituals and their significance.
  • Dashapushpas and Medicinal Values: 9th standard students Ameya and Aparna presented an impressive display of Dashapushpas, detailing their medicinal values and significance. Their exhibit highlighted the traditional and therapeutic importance of these ten sacred flowers in Ayurvedic medicine.
  • Karkidakam Foods: 8th standard students Advika and Annapurna showcased a special exhibit on healthy foods specific to the Karkidakam season. Their display provided valuable insights into dietary practices that promote well-being during this period, emphasizing nutrition and health.

The exhibition was a remarkable success, offering students and attendees a deeper understanding of cultural traditions and their scientific relevance.
